The reactivity of (cyclopropylethynyl)trimethylsilane is similar to that of ethyne. When this compound reacts with an azide, it yields a 1-azido-2-ethynylcyclohexene. This reaction proceeds thermally or under pressure. The product can be isolated from the reaction mixture by distillation or extraction with organic solvents. The (cyclopropylethynyl)trimethylsilane reagent has been used in the synthesis of various polymers and pharmaceuticals, as well as in additives for gasoline and plastics.
