Acetylcamptothecin is a radical scavenging agent that belongs to the group of stilbene derivatives. It has potent antioxidant activity and can be used in the treatment of cancer. Acetylcamptothecin binds to human protein and inhibits protein synthesis, leading to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. Acetylcamptothecin also has potent anti-inflammatory activities due to its ability to block prostaglandin synthesis. This compound is found in the genus Potentilla (such as Potentilla tabernaemontani) and can be extracted from the leaves of this plant using acetate solvents, such as acetic acid or acetic anhydride.
