Polyphyllin H is a saponin that has been reported to have antitumor effects. It is used in the analytical method for p-nitrophenyl phosphate, which is an enzyme form that can be activated by incubation with saponins. This form of p-nitrophenyl phosphate has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumor cells. Polyphyllin H also inhibits the activity of phosphatase enzymes and has been shown to have pharmacokinetic properties. In addition, this compound has been shown to have potential antitumor activity against intestinal and other cancers in tissue samples from rats.
