1,3,5-Tris(3,5-di(4-carboxyphenyl)phenyl)benzene is a sesquiterpene lactone that has shown to have antimicrobial properties. It has been found to inhibit the growth of influenza virus, and can be used as an antiviral agent for pandemic influenza prevention. 1,3,5-Tris(3,5-di(4-carboxyphenyl)phenyl)benzene is also known to have a protective effect on heart disease by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation. The structural heart disease it prevents is multifactorial and includes cardiac hypertrophy, cardiomyopathy and myocarditis. 1,3,5-Tris(3,5-di(4-carboxyphenyl)phenyl)benzene has also been shown to be effective against bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
