Descripción

Imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidine-3-carbaldehyde is a pyridine that has been shown to have antibacterial activity. The imidazopyridines are a class of compounds with a 1,2-imidazole ring fused to a pyridine ring. Imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidine-3-carbaldehyde is an example of such a compound. Imidazopyridines may be used as scaffolds for the development of new antibiotics. The chemical structure and activity of this compound may be related to its ability to bind to the 50S ribosomal subunit in bacteria and inhibit protein synthesis. This inhibition leads to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division.
