GZ-793A is an analog of acetylcholine and has potent locomotor activity. It binds to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, specifically the α7 subtype, and blocks the uptake of dopamine in the rat striatum. GZ-793A is a pharmacological treatment for cardiac dysfunction or other disorders characterized by a lack of neurotransmitter release. GZ-793A also has inhibitory properties against cocaine-induced locomotion and cocaine self-administration in rats. The drug's effects on locomotor activity are mediated through a transcriptomic analysis that revealed alterations in genes related to dopamine uptake and regulation
