5-(4-Chloro-phenyl)-1-vinyl-1 H -pyrrole-2-carboxylic acid is a potent antimicrobial agent that inhibits the growth of microbes by binding to their DNA and preventing transcription. It has been shown to be effective in animal models against influenza virus, herpes virus, and Helicobacter pylori. 5-(4-Chloro-phenyl)-1-vinyl-1 H -pyrrole-2-carboxylic acid has also been found to inhibit matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity and reduce atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. This drug also inhibits HIV replication by blocking the CCR5 receptor.
