2-(Bromomethyl)-6-methoxypyridine is an acceptor that can be used as a catalyst to enhance the rate of chemical reactions. It has been shown to catalyze the dimerization of acetophenone and benzaldehyde, with rates that are more than 100 times faster than those without the use of 2-(bromomethyl)-6-methoxypyridine. The electron donating properties of this compound may also make it a useful photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy. This molecule has been extensively studied in experiments involving mononuclear ligands and electron transfer reactions.
