• Descripción: 1-[2-(4-Methylphenoxy)ethyl]-2-[(2-phenoxyethyl)thio]-1H-benzimidazole (DETB) is a multidrug efflux pump inhibitor that is activated by hydroxyl group. It is a potential drug target for the treatment of bacterial infections, especially those caused by tetracycline resistant bacteria. DETB has been shown to inhibit the multidrug efflux pumps in human serum and in bacterial cells, which may be due to its ability to bind to fatty acids and p-hydroxybenzoic acid. DETB has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against gram negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This compound also has the ability to inhibit the growth of gram positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus.
