PSI-352938 is a protein inhibitor that targets the replication of hepatitis B virus, herpes simplex virus and influenza virus. PSI-352938 can inhibit viral DNA synthesis, RNA synthesis, and protein synthesis by binding to the guanylate kinase domain of the replicon's helicase. PSI-352938 has been shown to be effective against both wild type and drug resistant strains of these viruses. In addition to inhibiting viral replication, this compound also inhibits ribosomal activity in replicon cells. This inhibition prevents production of new virions from host cells with defective DNA polymerases. PSI-352938 has been shown to be safe for human use in clinical trials.
