3-(4-Methoxyphenyl)azetidine (3-MPAAZ) is a potent anticancer agent that inhibits the activity of methylene transferase, an enzyme involved in the synthesis of DNA. It binds to active methylene and caspase-9, inhibiting apoptosis. 3-MPAAZ also has inhibitory effects on cancer cells. 3-MPAAZ has been shown to have a profile similar to that of sulfa drugs, which are commonly used to treat bacterial infections and inflammation. The anticancer activity of 3-MPAAZ may be due to its ability to induce apoptosis in hepg2 cells.
