Isopropyl 3-Mercaptopropionate is a synthetic monomer that is soluble in organic solvents. It is used in polymerization reactions to synthesize polymers and copolymers with a variety of physical properties. Isopropyl 3-Mercaptopropionate is used as a crosslinker, chain transfer agent, or radical initiator for radical polymerization reactions. This compound can be used to measure the kinetics of polymerization reactions by monitoring the disappearance of unreacted monomer. Isopropyl 3-Mercaptopropionate can also be used as an inhibitor in free radical polymerization reactions by reacting with radicals.
