- 1,3-Benzodioxole-5-methanol, alpha-(aminomethyl)-
- 2-Amino-1-(1,3-benzodioxol-5-yl)ethanol
2-Amino-1-benzo[1,3]dioxol-5-yl-ethanol is a β-adrenergic receptor antagonist. It blocks the action of the neurotransmitter epinephrine at the β-adrenergic receptor, which reduces blood pressure and heart rate. 2-Amino-1-benzo[1,3]dioxol-5-yl ethanol also inhibits pheochromocytoma, which is a tumor that produces adrenaline. 2ABE has been shown to reduce blood pressure in patients with hypertension and heart disease by inhibiting the oxidation of blood cells and increasing the uptake of hydrogen ions in erythrocytes. This drug also increases the production of hydrogenated alkanals in liver enzymes, which may be related to its antihypertensive effect.
