3-Benzyl-4-heptanone is an enolate that has been used in the treatment of diseases such as tuberculosis and leprosy. The compound is fluorescent and emits a blue light when exposed to ultraviolet radiation. It can be used to detect the presence of manganese ions (Mn2+) by its fluorescence, which is dependent on the concentration of Mn2+. 3-Benzyl-4-heptanone has shown to be a potential antifungal agent, inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger. It also inhibits bacterial growth in vitro.
