4-(4-Isopropylphenyl)butanoic acid (4BPBA) is a monomer that belongs to the class of organometallic compounds. It is prepared from dimethylzinc and butanoic acid by alkylation, followed by copolymerization with styrene. This compound can be used in the synthesis of polymers for plastic applications. 4BPBA has been used to synthesize polystyrenes, polyesters, and polyurethanes. The Friedel-Crafts reaction of 4BPBA with trimethylenic chloride yields a polymer with a backbone containing alternating methylene and ethylene units.
