1-Ethylisoquinoline is a heterocyclic organic compound that has two adjacent nitrogens in its ring. It can be synthesized by reacting ethyl cyanoacetate with ammonia and hydrogen cyanide. 1-Ethylisoquinoline can also be obtained from the reaction of pyridine with hydrogen cyanide. 1-Ethylisoquinoline is used as an intermediate for the synthesis of other compounds, such as quinazoline derivatives and substituents. It is also used to study reactions involving pyrido fragments, mass spectra, analogous pyrimidines, spectra, and fragmentation. 1-Ethylisoquinoline has a radical character and reacts with oxygen to form hydrogen cyanide.
