Cyclopropyl 4-methylbenzenesulfonate is a boronic acid that is used as a polymerase inhibitor for HIV. Cyclopropyl 4-methylbenzenesulfonate inhibits the HIV-1 reverse transcriptase by binding to the catalytic site of the ns5b polymerase. The compound has shown activity against both wild type and drug resistant HIV strains and is active against viruses with mutations at codons 50, 51, 54, 55, and 56. Cyclopropyl 4-methylbenzenesulfonate is chiral and can be used in racemic form or as a single enantiomer. This compound has been approved for use in Russia and Japan.
