Methylionone is a chemical substance with the molecular formula of CHNO. It is an organic compound that can be synthesized from glycol ethers and anhydrous sodium. Methylionone has a chemical structure consisting of a benzene ring with two methyl groups attached to the carbon atoms on either side of the ring. The reaction solution for methylionone contains hydrochloric acid and diphenyl ether, which react to form methyl anthranilate as well as other byproducts. Methylionone can also be produced by reacting inorganic acids with cationic surfactants, such as dimethyldodecylammonium bromide (DDAB).
Methylionone has been used extensively in perfumery, where it is used as a cross-linking agent in some eugenol-based fragrances to increase their stability. This chemical has also been found to have anti-inflammatory effects in Sprague-Dawley
