• Descripción: 2-(Hydroxymethyl)-5-nitrophenol is a chemical that is used as a catalyst in the aerobic oxidation of alcohols to yield nitrosyl and other products. It can be synthesized by reacting phenol with formaldehyde, followed by hydroxylation with sodium hypochlorite. 2-(Hydroxymethyl)-5-nitrophenol has been shown to be able to catalyze the oxidation of alcohols, such as salicylaldehyde, at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. This catalyst has been used for the synthesis of ruthenium complexes.
