Ethyl 2-thiopheneacetate is a functional analog of the potent 5-HT1A receptor antagonist, ipsapirone. It has been shown to be an effective antipsychotic agent in animal models, with a potency that is about ten times greater than that of ipsapirone. Ethyl 2-thiopheneacetate has also been shown to have antitubercular activity and to be an effective inhibitor of the enzyme lipase.
