Descripción

Imidazopyridine is a chemical compound that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria and other gram-negative organisms. It is used as a clinical drug in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and cancer. Imidazopyridine binds to the receptor site on the cell membrane, inhibiting the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). It also inhibits the activity of cyclooxygenase, which prevents prostaglandin synthesis. Imidazopyridine blocks calcium channels and interacts with potassium channels, leading to its potent neurotoxic effects. These effects have been demonstrated in animal studies using gabazine, a selective blocker of voltage-gated potassium channels.
