Acequinocyl is a synthetic, matrix-based analytical method that can be used to determine the concentration of anhydrous sodium benzoate. It is a film-forming polymer that inhibits bacterial growth and binds to the bacterial enzyme activity. Acequinocyl has been shown to bind to the membrane and inhibit protein synthesis in mitochondria. It also binds to the ryanodine receptor in cardiac muscle cells and inhibits ATP production by binding to the enzyme activities involved in mitochondrial metabolism. The concentration of acequinocyl can be determined using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) with a detection limit of 0.1 ppm.
