4-(2-Bromophenyl)piperidine is a ligand that binds to the 5-HT1A receptor with high affinity. It has been shown to be a molecular target for diagnosis and treatment of disorders such as depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. 4-(2-Bromophenyl)piperidine may be used in the future in conjunction with other drugs to treat these disorders. 4-(2-Bromophenyl)piperidine has also been shown to reduce the release of acetylcholine and noradrenaline from nerve cells by binding to the acetylcholine receptor on nerve cells. This binding causes an increase in lower gastrointestinal motility and decreases intestinal transit time.
