Cyclo(Tyr-Leu) is a research tool that has been shown to be an activator of ligand-gated ion channels. Cyclo(Tyr-Leu) binds to the ligand binding site and activates the channel, which leads to an increase in intracellular calcium levels. Cyclo(Tyr-Leu) also has been shown to be a high-affinity antagonist for the GABA receptor. As a result, it blocks GABA receptors and prevents the binding of endogenous neurotransmitter GABA, which causes an inhibitory effect on neuronal activity. Cyclo(Tyr-Leu) also has been shown to be an inhibitor of protein interactions with high purity. This may lead to use in pharmacology as a drug target for peptides or proteins.
