Cefepime-d3 sulfate is a synthetic analog of cefepime. It is an antibiotic and antiparasitic that is synthesized in the laboratory. Cefepime-d3 sulfate has broad activity against microorganisms, including viruses, bacteria, and fungi. This drug binds to the 16S ribosomal RNA of bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. The drug can be used to treat infections caused by bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus pneumoniae. Cefepime-d3 sulfate has been shown to be effective against a number of fungal organisms such as Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus.
