6-Sulfonaphthalene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid is a white crystalline solid that has the chemical formula C10H8O5. It is soluble in water but insoluble in ethanol. This compound has been shown to interact with both sulfonic and carboxyl groups, which may be due to its uncoordinated character. 6-Sulfonaphthalene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid adsorbs on surfaces by a process of physical adsorption and undergoes x-ray diffraction in two dimensions. X-ray diffraction studies have shown that this compound has a crystal structure with an orthorhombic unit cell with space group P2/c and lattice constants of a = 3.621 Å and c = 11.972 Å.
