Dichlobentiazox is an antibiotic that belongs to the group of benzimidazoles. It is used in chemotherapy and as a medicine to treat bacterial, viral, and parasitic infections. Dichlobentiazox has been shown to have antiviral, microorganism, antiparasitic, natural, and synthetic properties. It binds to DNA gyrase and topoisomerase II enzymes in the bacterial cell wall by competitive inhibition. This binding prevents the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. Dichlobentiazox also inhibits HIV-1 replication by interfering with reverse transcription and RNA processing.
