(11aS)-10,11,12,13-Tetrahydro-5-hydroxy-5-oxide-diindenodioxaphosphocin is an activated synthetic molecule. It is a protonated molecule with a high reaction rate that is catalyzed by a copper complex. It reacts in the presence of imine and diazo compounds to form a stereogenic vinyldiazoacetate intermediate. This intermediate reacts with another vinyldiazoacetate to form an asymmetric product with two different chiral centers. The functional theory of asymmetric synthesis can be used to explain the mechanism of this reaction.
