• Descripción: 2-Methylfluoranthene is a halogenated aromatic hydrocarbon with genotoxic activity. It has shown carcinogenic effects in animals, which may be due to the induction of tumors by 2-methylfluoranthene in the lungs, liver, and skin. 2-Methylfluoranthene can also cause cancer in humans through inhalation of its fumes or ingestion. The carcinogenic effect of 2-methylfluoranthene is caused by the formation of reactive metabolites that bind covalently to DNA and lead to mutations. These reactive metabolites are formed when 2-methylfluoranthene is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes and other enzymes from the cytochrome P450 family.
