2-Amino-3-(6-methoxy-1H-indol-3-yl)propanoic acid is a multidrug resistance protein inhibitor that binds to the ATP binding site of the transporter, preventing it from transporting drugs out of the cell. This leads to an increase in intracellular concentrations of drugs and a decrease in their concentration in the extracellular environment. 2-Amino-3-(6-methoxy-1H-indol-3-yl)propanoic acid has been shown to be more potent than vincristine and vinblastine. It has also been shown to inhibit multidrug resistance in carcinoma cells and clinical drug resistance in cancer patients.
