5-Hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-3,7-dimethoxy-4H-chromen-4-one is a natural compound that has been shown to have antiviral and antioxidant properties. The compound inhibits the replication of picornaviruses, including poliovirus and human rhinoviruses. It also prevents oxidative injury in liver cells caused by polyunsaturated fatty acids. 5-Hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-3,7-dimethoxy 4H-[1] chromen[2] -4 one has been shown to inhibit the replication of RNA viruses in tissue culture, as well as bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. This compound also exhibits antimicrobial activity against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
