It reacts with azides to form cyclic compounds and it has been used as a reactive intermediate in cross-coupling reactions. 2-Iodocyclohex-2-en-1-one is also used as a building block for the synthesis of trisubstituted carbonyl compounds, which are important intermediates in organic chemistry. This chemical can be recrystallized from diethyl ether or purified by chromatography.
