N-Hydroxy-2,4,6-trimethylbenzenesulfonamide is an antimicrobial agent. It is a synthetic compound that inhibits the synthesis of the enzyme dopamine β-hydroxylase. This inhibition leads to the depletion of dopamine and thus alleviates symptoms of Parkinson's disease. N-Hydroxy-2,4,6-trimethylbenzenesulfonamide has also been shown to be effective against infectious diseases caused by bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Streptococcus pneumoniae. The drug inhibits protein synthesis in these bacteria by binding to their ribosomes and inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division.
