7-Chloro-6-nitroquinoline is a quinoline with carboxylic acid groups that can be hydrolyzed to form carboxylic acid derivatives. It has antibacterial activity and can be used as an antimicrobial agent. This compound also has the ability to inhibit the growth of Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, which is resistant to penicillin and erythromycin. 7-Chloro-6-nitroquinoline is also effective against other Gram negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium.
