It binds to the ryanodine receptor and inhibits the release of calcium from the sarcoplasmic reticulum, which may lead to an increase in acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter involved in many aspects of brain function. 2-(Nitromethylidene)-1,3-thiazinane has also been shown to inhibit the activity of neonicotinoids, insecticides that are used for agricultural and veterinary purposes. This compound is structurally similar to other non-competitive inhibitors of acetylcholine esterase, such as piperonyl butoxide.
