N,N-Dimethylaminoethylphenylacetate hydrochloride (DMAEA) is an impurity of the API (active pharmaceutical ingredient) DMPE. It is a white, crystalline powder and is soluble in water. DMAEA is used as an analytical standard for HPLC and GC applications. DMAEA is also a synthetic drug that has been studied in metabolism studies. The natural form of this compound has not been identified but it can be found as a metabolite in urine and plasma following administration to rats. This compound has shown no adverse effects on the body when administered to animals at high doses, making it suitable for use in drug products with the dosage being determined by its therapeutic index.
