It is used in Cell Biology and Pharmacology to study ion channels, ligands, receptors, peptides, and protein interactions. (rac)-Benpyrine can be used as an activator or an antibody. (rac)-Benpyrine binds to the receptor site on a cell membrane and changes the shape of the channel so that ions can flow through it more easily. This can lead to an increase in the rate of depolarization of the membrane.
(rac)-Benpyrine is also used as a ligand in high-affinity binding assays for proteins such as G-protein coupled receptors and protein kinases.
