(2-(Trifluoromethyl)thiazol-4-yl)methanol is a benzimidazole derivative that inhibits the activity of imidazopyridine N-acetyltransferase, which is an enzyme involved in the synthesis of histamine. It has shown to be selective for this enzyme and not affect other enzymes related to histamine synthesis. (2-(Trifluoromethyl)thiazol-4-yl)methanol does not show mutagenicity or genotoxicity in f344 rats and has a low safety profile when tested on humans. This drug has been shown to have antiobesity effects, which are likely due to its inhibition of histamine synthesis.
