Cyclohexyl 3,4-dimethylphenyl ketone is a potent allosteric modulator of the glutamate receptor subtype. It has shown antidepressant-like effects in animal models by acting on this receptor. Cyclohexyl 3,4-dimethylphenyl ketone binds to the extracellular domain of the glutamate receptor subtype and potentiates its activity by increasing the binding affinity for glutamate. Cyclohexyl 3,4-dimethylphenyl ketone may also act as a potential mechanism for cancer stem cells through inhibition of protein kinase C (PKC) signaling pathways that regulate transcriptional programs involved in cellular differentiation and proliferation.
