It is used for the treatment of allergic rhinitis, chronic idiopathic urticaria, and pruritus. Rupatadine has also been investigated for its potential use in the treatment of solid tumours. Rupatadine belongs to a class of drugs called histamine H1 receptor antagonists. In experimental models, it has been shown to inhibit the growth of certain types of cancer cells by blocking the activity of histamine receptors on cell membranes and inhibiting protein synthesis. The drug also inhibits cardiac potassium channels, which may lead to cardiac effects such as arrhythmias or heart block.
