3,22-Dihydroxyolean-12-en-29-oic acid (DHBA) is a tripterygium hypoglaucum extract that has been shown to activate the proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR). DHBA has been shown to inhibit inflammatory responses in animal models and to have an anti-inflammatory effect. DHBA also has an adsorption mechanism that is dependent on the molecule's bioactivities. This mechanism is supported by kinetic data from experiments using tripterygium extracts. The pharmacological effects of DHBA are mainly related to its PPAR activation, which may be due to its ability to inhibit NFκB activity.
