Benzo[b]thiophene-3-carboxamide is a heterobicyclic compound that inhibits the production of prostaglandins and epoxides. It has been shown to be effective in the prophylaxis and treatment of a number of diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, neurodegenerative diseases, autoimmune diseases, and infectious diseases. It also inhibits lipoxygenase enzymes that are involved in the synthesis of leukotrienes and other inflammatory mediators. Benzo[b]thiophene-3-carboxamide is currently undergoing clinical trials for use as an anti-inflammatory agent in the prevention of bowel disease.
