It has a spectrum that includes both nicotiana and brugmansia plant species, as well as other plants that contain tropinone or piperideine. The molecule is also biosynthesized in cultures of rhizogenes, which are bacteria that can produce secondary metabolites in response to external stimuli such as antibiotics.
