Cariprazine hydrochloride is an antipsychotic drug that belongs to the class of drugs called dopamine receptor antagonists. Cariprazine binds to dopamine receptors in the brain, blocking the effects of dopamine and thereby reducing psychotic symptoms. Cariprazine has been shown to be effective for the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in clinical trials. In addition, it has a matrix effect on symptoms that are resistant to other antipsychotic medications. Cariprazine also has pharmacological properties that make it a suitable candidate for drug interactions with other psychotropic medications such as benzodiazepines, antidepressants, opioids, or anticonvulsants.
