CF53 can be used in research laboratories as a hybridization probe for nucleic acids. CF53 has been shown to have antiviral activity against the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV). The antiviral effect of CF53 may be due to its ability to inhibit viral replication by inhibiting reverse transcription, which is required for replication of HIV and HBV.
