The electrophilic reactivity of 1-methyl-1-propylpiperidinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (MPPTI) is significantly higher than that of other anions, such as ClO-, Cl-, BF4-, PF6-, and CF3SO2-. MPPTI can be used in the analysis of organic solvents due to its relatively high reaction rate. It is also a good candidate for the study of magnesium ions because it has a low formation rate. The transport properties and overpotential of MPPTI have been studied using a gold electrode in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. This compound is suitable for use as a microscopy contrast agent due to its ability to form aggregates with polymers, proteins, and DNA.
