(+)-Dimethyl 2,3-O-isopropylidene-D-tartrate is a building block that is used in the synthesis of a variety of chemical compounds, including pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of (+)-N-[(1R)-1-(2,3-dimethoxyphenyl)ethyl]-N′-[(2S)-2-(methylamino)propyl]thiourea (DMET), which has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and induce apoptosis.
