Corticotropin has been shown to inhibit ion channels, such as voltage-gated sodium channels and calcium channels, which are responsible for signaling the release of neurotransmitters. Corticotropin also inhibits ligand-gated ion channels, such as NMDA receptors and GABA receptors, which regulate neuronal excitability.
