L-Leucine dehydrogenase is a subunit of the formate dehydrogenase complex that catalyzes the conversion of L-leucine to L-threonine. This enzyme is found in Bacillus cereus and E. coli, among other bacteria. The electron orientation of this enzyme is oriented towards the leucine side chain, which allows for easier access to electrons and hydrogenation reactions. The molecule has a diameter of 5 nm and consists of four subunits. Deaminases are used to remove amino groups from amino acids such as l-threonine, converting it into an amine group. This reaction is known as deamination.
