Descripción

Censavudine is an analog of zidovudine. It inhibits the HIV virus by binding to the viral reverse transcriptase and inhibiting the function of this enzyme. Censavudine has been shown in vitro to have a potent antiviral effect against wild-type HIV, but not against drug-resistant HIV strains. This antiviral agent also acts as a toll-like receptor modulator and has shown long-term toxicity in nonhuman primates. Censavudine is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes and interacts with other drugs through hydrogen bonds or glycosidic bonds.
